The Department of Parasitology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya has successfully organised the Second Intervarsity Parasitology Quiz and Oratorical Competition. The competition was held on 13th September 2017 from 10 am to 4 pm at T J Danaraj Auditorium, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya. A total of six universities i.e. University of Malaya (UM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Asian Institute of Medicine, Science and Technology (AIMST) University, University College Sedaya International (UCSI), Management & Science University (MSU) and Melaka Manipal Medical College (MMMC) participated. The event aimed to promote communications among parasitology educators and students. Through careful selection and design of the questions, we wished to provide further education in parasitology. This coincides with the vision of MSPTM.
The competition was based on oral quiz and the entries were on a knock out basis with the winning team of each round move to grand final. For oratorical contest, one contestant from each university gave a talk on “Why parasitology is important in today’s context?” in three minutes. Medical students from the Melaka Manipal Medical College (MMMC) emerged as the champion for quiz. The champion team was represented by Tan Wing, Chitra A/P Balakrishnan, Eow Li Ni and Chew Farn Ye. UPM won the second place in quiz. The UPM team was represented by Noor Izzati binti Ambok Chening, Sandeep Singh A/L Daljit Singh, Josephine Ng Lian Ting and Jegathis A/L Prushothuman. UCSI team won the third place in oral quiz. The UCSI team was represented by Yong Dick Sen, Kelly Wong Yin Han, Kuan Pei Jun and Loshana A/P V.S. Lengam. Meanwhile Kenneth Paul Martinez from MSU won the champion in oratorical. Yee Cia Pey from MMMC won the second place in oratorical.
