Adela Ida Jiram

President MSPTM 2026-2028
63rd/64th Council

Dear Respected Members and Colleagues,

It is a great honour to serve as President of the Malaysian Society of Parasitology and Tropical Medicine (MSPTM). I accept this responsibility with deep appreciation for the trust placed in me, and with sincere respect for the many leaders, members, researchers, educators, clinicians, and partners who have built MSPTM into the respected society it is today.

My vision for this term is to strengthen MSPTM as a dynamic, inclusive, and forward-looking professional society that continues to advance parasitology, tropical medicine, and infectious disease research in Malaysia and beyond. As the health challenges facing our communities become increasingly complex, our role as a scientific society must also evolve. We must continue to generate knowledge, support evidence-based practice, encourage collaboration, and translate our expertise into meaningful benefit for society.

During my term, MSPTM will focus on nurturing the next generation of scientists and health professionals. We aim to create more opportunities for young researchers, postgraduate students, and early-career members to participate actively in our activities, present their work, build networks, and develop leadership within the field. Their energy and ideas are essential to the future of our society.

We will also continue to strengthen collaboration locally, regionally, and internationally. Parasitic and tropical diseases do not exist in isolation, and neither should our efforts to address them. Through partnerships with academic institutions, health agencies, professional bodies, and international societies, MSPTM will promote knowledge exchange, multidisciplinary research, and collective action in tackling infectious diseases of public health importance.

Another important aim is to enhance the visibility and impact of MSPTM’s scientific contributions, including through our journal, Tropical Biomedicine. We will continue to support high-quality research, encourage robust peer review, and promote the dissemination of findings that contribute to science, policy, and practice.

At the same time, MSPTM remains committed to serving the wider community. Public awareness, education, and outreach will remain central to our mission. By sharing accurate and accessible information on parasitic and tropical diseases, we hope to contribute to better prevention, improved health literacy, and stronger community engagement.

I believe that the strength of MSPTM lies in its members. With your continued support, participation, and commitment, I am confident that we can further advance the society’s mission and contribute meaningfully to the health and well-being of our communities.

Thank you for your trust and dedication. I look forward to working together with all of you throughout this term.

Sincerely,

Adela Ida Jiram
President,
Malaysian Society of Parasitology and Tropical Medicine
