The Nadchatram Medal is named after the late Dr. M. Nadchatram, A.M.N, MSc, MlBiol, FSL, FZS, Ph.D. Dr. Nadchatram was a world renown acarologist who had made numerous scientific contributions and discoveries of ecological and epidemiological importance in medical acarology. Dr. Nadchatram was the founding head of the Division of Acarology, Institute of Medical Research (IMR) and a WHO consultant. Following his retirement from the IMR in 1982, Dr. Nadchatram served at the National University of Singapore as a Senior Teaching Fellow from 1983 – 1988. Dr. Nadchatram was also the founder member of the MSPTM and became the 14th President in 1977. He also served as the Honorary Secretary in 1972. The Nadchatram Medal is awarded annually to a scientist aged 45 years or below in recognition of outstanding research in the field of Parasitology and Tropical Medicine.

The 62nd MSPTM Council is delighted to announce that Dr. Tan Tiong Kai, Stanley has been selected as the recipient of the Nadchatram Medal 2025. The medal will be officially presented during the opening ceremony of the 62nd Annual Scientific Conference of the Malaysian Society of Parasitology and Tropical Medicine.

Dr. Stanley holds a PhD in Molecular Parasitology from Universiti Malaya. His research focuses on nematode biology and anthelmintic drug resistance, epidemiology of parasitic and vector-borne diseases, and medico-veterinary parasitology within a One Health framework.

His work on anthelmintic resistance in Haemonchus contortus has provided important molecular insights into resistance mechanisms and contributed to improved surveillance and control strategies in livestock. In addition, he has conducted extensive field and laboratory studies on blood and gastrointestinal parasites, arthropod vectors, and vector-borne pathogens affecting both humans and animals in Malaysia and the region, strengthening evidence-based public health and veterinary practices.

To date, Dr. Stanley has authored 64 peer-reviewed publications, primarily in Web of Science-indexed journals, and has presented his research at numerous national and international conferences. He has successfully secured competitive research grants and continues to demonstrate strong research leadership in his field.

Within MSPTM, Dr. Stanley currently serves as Honorary Secretary for the 61st and 62nd Councils (2024–2026) and has been actively involved in the organisation of the Society’s scientific conferences and professional activities.
